We were able to send home everyone(11 people) with more Rockfish than their families could eat. Look forward to another trip, and this time I'll bring more sandwiches!

I have been out on a number of headboats in the past, however, I have never been with a Captain as knowledgeable of the bay and where the big ones are than Captain Jim. If you want fun, want fish, and great amusement, then look to Captain Jim to provide all three. Thanks for a great day one the bay.

Thank you for the great and entertaining trip. hundreds of fish were caught, learned lots of new things, and I would had spent more on gas alone, if I would had covered the same amount of ground (or I should say water)in my little 18" boat. And I also learned that beer can shoot really, really far out of your nose if you take a drink when your telling jokes. thanks again

Comments: we've been chartering with Jim for the last six years on Veteran's day and have never been disappointed. Jim loves to fish, and he will work hard to find quality fish. The Jil Carrie is one of the biggest and nicest boats in the bay with all the state of art equipment, yet Jim keeps his prices competitive. The real advantage with Jim's service is that he will keep fishing when other captains call it a day. Jim is a quality fishing guide who will find the fish for you, or let you call the shots. My group loves the way Jim lets us go jigging for part of the day, then chum for awhile, then finish the day jigging for trout. I was on another jigging trip this past fall where we limited out on big rockfish to 51" jigging. Jim has become a very good light tackle guide.

So far, i had a very bad experience with other captains but not all, because all they care about is the money and not committed to their clients. There's a good captain in the upperbay, but the fishing is not that great. I hope you can fullfill my last search with great fishing. I'm also very interested in spring fishing. Just wanted to take a minute to thank you and TJ for a great trip on Wednesday (11-17-04). You should have seen my boy when I showed him that huge fish that you got me into! Thanks for that as well. (I need a picture if you have them, my email is at the bottom) I just wanted to tell you that you run a nice business and that everything was handled professionally.
It is obvious that I can come aboard with a bunch of other rowdy cops and fireman, or could bring my wife and chlidren, and have a safe, great trip with either. Best of luck in the future, will see you on the next one. Who knows what might have happened if Tharpe left the bananna muffins on the dock!
Thanks again,

Comments: Capt'n
Thanks for the great trip on Sunday. As you know my whole world had been shitting on me lately, That "L" thing and all.
I am sitting at the shop ALONE at 4:30 am Sunday morning and I realize that I just don't think anybody gives a
f%ck. So I head on down to Deale and meet you at your boat and give you the chance to take the day off since my party didn't show and it was only me. I didn't want my money back and even had a tip in my pocket for the first mate.
Perhaps, you thought that I wouldn't have come all the way down if I didn't want to fish. Well, I would have come down because I made a contract with you and you deserve more then a message on a machine or an email letting you know I wanted to cancel at truly the "last minute"
Maybe you would have felt guilty keeping my money and not going out even though I offered. Your feelings would have been unjust to yourself. For the last 8 or so years you, the Jill Carrie, Charlotte K, the little crab boat
"Off Mon" (don't remember the name but I have been out on it) Capt'n Al and all the other assorted first mates have been a great escape from my real world. I would have been happy heading back home knowing that I was able to let you spend that little bit of time with Jill, Jimmy and Sarah.
When I made you the offer and you only seemed to think about it for a second or two, I was surprised and actually happy that you said you wanted to go fishing. I don't know if that is the pride and honor you take in your business and your caring for your customers or if you really do like to fish that much. My guess is a little bit of both.
I was a bit skeptical at first. I know that I am not a big conversationalist but I do like to catch fish. I knew I was in the right place for that. Catch fish we did!!!! I learned very quickly that if you are the only one on the boat there are no "chip breaks" I don't remember how many times I had to chuck a handful of chips or lose a chicken leg overboard with the call of "fish on" I couldn't even get one fish in before I was informed to go get one of the other poles. When we went to the "gooses" ..... I can only describe that as speed fishing. You gave me a pole, I caught a blue, Al netted the fish, took the pole and with little celebration you had another pole in my hand. I cast my line, caught a rockfish, Al netted the rock, took the pole and you handed me another pole with baited hook. This was repeated over and over and
over and over again for about an hour. When fishermen die......... they go to that place. It was fishing heaven and you are the god.
Capt'n, Thank you! I had a day away from reality. It was a complete dream. Even though as a "party" I was alone. I was surrounded by some of the things I love best. Poles bending over, BBQ chicken, The smell of the bay, A little rum, And a couple of good friends. I am not a real religious person but damned it, God bless you Capt'n Jim and Capt'n Al. May your bow stay above water and at least one of your engines start. Greg Prothero

Comments: I have been fishing with Captain Jim on and off again since 1999. Over the course of five trips we have always caught our limit of Striped Bass ("Rockfish") as well as plenty of Bluefish, Croaker, Weakfish (trout), Spot etc. once the Rock were in the boat. I have personally caught two citation Stripers with Jim and seen plenty of other citation fish caught by other anglers. On Monday of this week, Jim drove us for 50 miles during a very slow day to get to the fish. I don't know how much diesel he burned, but it certainly cut into his profit for the trip. Many captains would have only gone a few miles out and been content to deliver a few spot or perch during a time when the fishing was slow.
Why would you ever book with anyone else?

Comments: I have to admit that day will never be forgotten by me. I thought I was on (forgot the name of his boat)but on George Clooney's Perfect Storm boat) but I really did think about that movie as we departed from Happy Harbour and entered the bay; but eventually I calmed down and laughted so hard I could not admit how nervous I was; but thanks Capt. for a cruise I will never forget. The ride back was great, I could see the lights along the shore line where as going over, nothing but rain, clouds and waves. I call that my trip on the Perfect Storm Cruise, hope you do not get offended. Diane Preskitt Burns, class of 1964, Ballou HS, Washington, D.C.

My party of 23 had a great time despite the intense heat, and they were all thrilled to catch our limit of Rockfish and close to 200 more assorted fish from the bottom of the Bay. We are all looking forward to going back out next year. If you want a day to remember, make sure you book a day on the Bay aboard the Jil Carrie.

We went on another charter fishing boat but NO CAPTAIN IS LIKE CAPTAIN JIM!!!!!! the trip we went on was really lame and we didnt get to cast the reel out, you just set the poles down and wait for a fish to bite. I liked riding in your boat because you knew the best places to go to get fish and we caught a ton of fish! Thanks again, Joshua Harders, 13

Comments: We had a great trip, notwithstanding the fact that the rock had lockjaw today. The captain fished long and hard looking for 20 rock for our charter of 8. We landed 2 big rock (38 inch)and 5 or 6 small (20-24 inch) rock. At the end of the day the captain suggested we try for trout, we caught 48 weakfish in about 2 hours or less, most were around 16 inches long, but, several were over 20 inches. We will be back again next year to fish for monster rock.

Just wanted to let you know what a great time Michael and I had fishing w/ you Monday. As I mentioned, I grew up fishing the Rappahannock and the bay w/ my Dad, Ryland Brooks. He fished practically year 'round and loved it better than anyone I've known (I am biased). Anyway, my sister reminded me he passed away 3 years ago on Monday, June 25th! Ironically, we celebrated him w/o even knowing at the time. It truly brought back some wonderful memories to be on board the Jil Carrie. Thanks for a great day and some new memories. P.S. The grilled rock was UUUUMMMMMMM GOOD.

We had a great time on the 22nd! We're ready to head south again to land some "Beasts" but we're busy with the whitetail season up here. Hope to email you pix of some Liberty reservoir stripers we'll be trolling for Sunday (I'm fishing with one of the sick fellas)!
Our boss "Bucket Bill" will not be joining us next fall due to rough seas! A few guys will be using Dramanine unless they believe in my magical elixir of beer, beer, and more beer!!
Thanks again for putting us on top of the Beasts!

Comments: Today was a GOOD day! Eleven of the Air Force’s finest, assigned to Air Force Flight Standards Agency (AFFSA) at Andrews AFB and the HQ Federal Aviation Administration, took a day off from planning, managing, and maintaining USAF’s air traffic control system. What did they do instead? Why they spent the day fishing in the Chesapeake Bay with Captain Jim and First Mate Bob aboard the “Jil Carrie”. Members of the group were Colonel (sel) “Crusty” Guilliory, Lt Col “Salty” Munn, Major “Barnacle” Bannach, Captains “Reverend” Johnson and “Whipping Boy” Bruckbauer, Sergeants “I Gotta Go” Jennings, “Croaker” Treadwell and “Chum Queen” Weakley, “Catfish” Bell, “Lunker” Altimeyer, and “Be the Chum” Charney. Four of us landed award (patch/certificate) winning Trout, the largest credited to “Whipping Boy”, weighing in at 8lbs and measuring 27 inches long. The day was as perfect as the sunrise (temp in the 70’s), the crew was super (even sandwich-eatin’ Bob), the fish were biting (had our Rock Fish limit by 10am), and nobody missed out on the fun. Thanks to Captain Jim and Bob and especially “Chum” Charney for organizing the whole day

Comments: I have been aboard "Jil Carrie" twice, and by god, the skipper never gets any better looking (His wife, by the way is a babe) but for certain, the man is accurate. Memorial day, 2000, we left the marina and Capt Jim said, and I quote "You're gonna catch 600 fish today." I nodded, although I thought that rather a tough feat to accomplish since I knew we had at least 9 out of our party of 18 that would not be "in the game". Howsoever, we indeed gave them a spankin' and brought home 575 tasty critters and threw back at least 30. The man knows his business. Be sure to bring him a cold "Howling Monkey" from time to time. He really digs the stuff.
Thanks Capt Jim and Cousin it Reed, it was truly a great day. Look forward to chartering you gain real soon.

Oh well, back to business, we have a new Minister and as a way to get acquainted with the congregation, he thought that a fishing charter would be a good way to start. Comments: My Dad, Sleepy, had always wanted to take a charter fishing trip. So, this year, I decided to organize some family and friends to get a trip together. I searched the Web and found Captain Jim. And boy, am I ever glad I did. (Great site, by the way.)We had all hoped to catch some rockfish, but few were to be found (we only had two keepers). But Captain Jim upped the anchor and took us an hour further south on the bay to the gas pier off Calvert Cliffs. Some of us were hunting rock, some were happy to catch some Norfolk Spot. The fish were practically jumping into the boat! The rockfishers were pulling in Snapper Bluefish faster than you'd believe. I was catching Norfolk Spot two at a time! It was incredible. My father and my son both had a fantastic time, too, as did everyone else in the party. We ended up with 177 fish!!! (There were twelve of us in the party.)
Capt. Jim had no mate that day, but he was very professional and courteous even if we were all keeping him constantly busy. Not only that, he is one of the friendliest and most personable guys I've met. He even stayed past dark at the dock to help us clean our fish! What more can one ask for?
A great custom-built boat, a friendly, knowledgeable Captain with a great sense of humor and the know-how to find us some fish, and a beautiful day on the Chesapeake?
I have absolutely NO complaints. Captain Jim, you're the best. Thanks for a wonderful, and memorable day fishing on the Jil Carrie on the Chesapeake Bay!

Looks like your doing real well - Yea, I'm living in Oregon, have been for a couple years now. It is likely my wife and I will be moving east in summer or fall 99. I would love to come out an do some fishing with you, perhaps in the winter. Untill then happy trails etc... YITB - Snooz 375

Everyone at NASDAQ had a great time and we are going to have to make this a semi-annual beerfest and not only annual. Say "Hi" to Two Dawgs for us and we will see you soon.

Cap't Jim,
Just a note to say hello, and glad to read some of the reports here.
I'm a New Jersey coastal tide runner, piloting the Lin's Nightmare out of Ortley Beach, near Seaside Heights, NJ.
We have the misnomer of having the worst coastal entry in the east coast, Barnegat inlet.
What do I go for? Blues, Stripers, and bottom fish.
We go in in April each year, and stay in until November. Boat is a 24 foot BAHA, by Cruisers, Inc. It's a walk-around fishing boat. We'll keep you posted as how we do this year.
